Both preventive care and sick care are important to keep you healthy. But what is the difference? Preventive care means you are seeing your healthcare provider regularly to help you stay healthy. Regular well visits can help keep you from getting sick and find health problems early. On the other hand, sick care is when you see a provider because you are not feeling well.

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. Prevention and screening are the most important ways to fight cervical cancer. During the pandemic, many people did not get tested for cervical cancer or receive the HPV vaccine (shot) that helps prevent this cancer.

Dr. Vincent Marchello: It is important to get a checkup every year, so your primary care provider (PCP) can see any changes in your health and help you develop a plan that’s right for you. During your checkup, you can also ask your PCP any questions you may have. This will mark the ‘starting point’ of your health journey for the year.

Individuals ages 60 or older and pregnant people do not need a prescription to get a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine at participating pharmacies. RSV infections usually occur during the fall and winter. If you are eligible, you should get vaccinated as soon as possible to stay healthy.
