Juneteenth is a federal holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States. It commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when the final enslaved people were told in Galveston, Texas, that they were free. Juneteenth is an important milestone in American culture. It celebrates the liberation from discriminatory, immoral, and inhumane beliefs, policies, and systems that we cannot afford to repeat. In 1867, the Freedmen's Bureau organized the first Juneteenth celebration. The day (melding the words `June' and `nineteenth') was first celebrated in Galveston.

To promote community health and wellness and the importance of staying connected with friends and neighbors, Fidelis Care is kicking off its annual Unity street festival series. Started with the original “Unity in the Heights” event in 2011, the series has expanded across the state with a variety of local partners.

Dr. Sarah Vogel, a Fidelis Care Medical Director since 2022, has plans in motion to benefit a worthy cause. This summer, she will participate in the Empire State Ride to End Cancer (ESR), a cycling event dedicated to impacting the future of cancer research and saving lives. All funds raised from the event support cancer research at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. It is a time to recognize and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and more) communities, raise awareness about LGBTQIA+ rights and issues, and promote inclusivity and acceptance.
