National Poison Prevention Week is March 16-22, 2025. The annual observance reminds us to keep children safe from poisons. Kids are curious and like to explore their home. Each year, thousands of kids go to the emergency room after ingesting harmful substances, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These range from medications to cleaning products to batteries. Parents can take some easy steps to avoid accidental poisonings around the home.

Colorectal cancer is a disease in which cells in the colon or rectum grow out of control. It is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The American Cancer Society predicts there will be approximately 150,000 new cases of colorectal cancer in the United States in 2025, with as many as 53,000 deaths.

"Food Connects Us" is the theme for National Nutrition Month 2025, highlighting the important role that food plays in uniting individuals, families, and communities. It links us to our cultures, families and friends. It creates shared experiences and deepens our connections. Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month is a time to recognize the impact of substance use disorders and the importance of accessible, compassionate care. The 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that 48.5 million people aged 12 or older in the United States had a substance use disorder. Barriers such as stigma and limited availability of resources often prevent people from seeking help. In observance of Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month, Fidelis Care visited with Crouse Health Addiction Treatment Services (Crouse ATS) Director Monika Taylor. Crouse ATS is a 2024 Fidelis Care behavioral health grant recipient.

The new year is a good time to set health goals. As we approach 2025, here are some ways to stay healthy and focus on your well-being: Annual checkup starts you off right Start your year off right by scheduling an annual exam with your primary care provider (PCP). Regular checkups are the basis of good health. They give you the chance to talk with your PCP about any medical concerns. Your PCP can look for problems before they become serious and tell you about any tests or screenings you may need. For children, regular well visits with their pediatrician help them to grow up strong and healthy, and to get all the immunizations they need.
