September is National Suicide Prevention Month
9/4/2024 • Posted by Patrice Reives-Bright, MD, Fidelis Care Senior Medical Director of Behavioral Health in Health and Wellness, Mental Health

Suicide is a major public health issue that leaves a tremendous impact on families, friends, and entire communities. Here are some facts:

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, a time to honor the lives lost to suicide and offer support to those who have been affected. Like other mental health conditions, suicide and suicidal thoughts can impact anyone, regardless of their age, gender, or background.

It is important to know that suicide can be prevented. There are ways each of us can help. From faith communities to schools, workplaces, and community centers, everyone can help make a difference.

  • Educate yourself about suicide prevention.
  • Learn the warning signs and risk factors.
  • Understand how to offer support to someone who may be considering suicide.
  • Become familiar with resources like the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Together, we can create a network of support and hope that helps save lives. During National Suicide Prevention Month, let’s begin to learn, share, and act for a brighter future for all.
