Get Ready for a Healthy 2025!

The new year is a good time to set health goals. As we approach 2025, here are some ways to stay healthy and focus on your well-being:

Annual checkup starts you off right

Start your year off right by scheduling an annual exam with your primary care provider (PCP). Regular checkups are the basis of good health. They give you the chance to talk with your PCP about any medical concerns. Your PCP can look for problems before they become serious and tell you about any tests or screenings you may need. For children, regular well visits with their pediatrician help them to grow up strong and healthy, and to get all the immunizations they need.

A resolution worth keeping

If you smoke, set the date to stop. The new year is a good time to make a resolution to quit! Throw away cigarettes or e-cigarettes, and ask your PCP about ways to help you quit. You can also call the New York State Smokers’ Quitline at 1-866-NY-QUITS (1-866-697-8487). Quitting will add healthy years to your life!

Protect yourself from the flu

If you haven’t been vaccinated against the flu yet, there’s still time. The flu season peaks between December and February, but can continue into the spring. Each year, flu and its related complications result in more than 200,000 hospitalizations in the United States.

Staying active keeps you healthy

Getting 30 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week can have a big impact on your physical and mental health. Walking, biking, and swimming are great ways to be active. Always check with your PCP before starting any fitness routine. Remember to drink lots of water after exercising.

Healthy foods are a treat

A good, well-rounded diet helps keep you healthy and strong. It’s important to choose foods that are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. They give you energy to get through the day. You also need protein in your diet. Good sources of protein include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. Eating foods that are low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt, and added sugars will help keep the pounds off and lessen your risk for diabetes and other health conditions.

These tips are a great way to kick off a healthy new year. We wish you a happy 2025!
