Every year on the third Monday in January, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who fought for justice and equality for all. His dream wasn’t just about civil rights, it was also about making sure everyone has the same chance to live a healthy life. Dr. King once said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman.” He saw that many people, especially in poor and minority communities, didn’t have access to good healthcare. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time of reflection, celebration, and unity. For me, it is deeply personal, a reminder of the strength, resilience, and cultural pride that defines our community. It is also a call to action to honor our heritage not only with words, but through efforts that uplift the health and well-being of Hispanic families across New York and beyond. The Hispanic community carries a powerful legacy of hard work, faith, and family. Yet, despite our many strengths, we continue to face significant health challenges. Chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity are disproportionately prevalent among Hispanic populations.

  Fidelis Care opened its 2025 Veggies to Go produce giveaway season by distributing more than 150 bags of fresh fruits and vegetables at events hosted by Genesee ACE Employment in Batavia on March 15 and the Watertown YMCA on March 26.
